In the midst of a week in Houston, Texas, that was plagued by scattered daily thundershowers and sporadic downpours, the weather gods saw fit to make the first Sunday of April 2004 into a beautiful, warm, and sunny day without a drop of rain. That set the perfect stage for the Sam Houston Corvette Club's semi-annual Hooters Corvette Show and gave the scores of Corvette enthusiasts that attended all the more reason to have fun.
In addition to their monthly cruise-ins, the Sam Houston Corvette Club and their premier sponsor, Parkway Chevrolet, host two people's choice Corvette shows each year, and, thankfully, the first of the 2004 shows went off without a hitch. Sixty gorgeous Vettes of all vintages came out to enjoy the sunshine and camaraderie on April 4, and many people dropped by to ogle the Corvettes-including several Viper owners. Such sponsors as Corvettes of Houston, West Coast Corvettes, Gulf Coast Corvettes, Mid America Motorworks, Ecklers, Meguiar's, and Corvette Central, among others, provided lots of goodies for participant bags and door prizes. Each participant got to vote for their favorite Vettes in a dozen different classes. Plus, the Hooters girls not only served up lunch, but also had the honor of choosing their favorite Corvette for the Best of Show.
In the end, nobody went home empty-handed, and 21 Corvettes left with trophies. The weather couldn't have been better that Sunday, and it certainly picked the perfect day to cooperate; it rained on and off all day Saturday and the sky would leak again on Monday, but car show Sunday was beautiful! The buffalo wings inside Hooters were hot, but the Corvettes outside were even hotter!
