2012 Super Chevy Show - Maple Grove Mayhem

Harold Caron had the front wheels of his blown ’88 Camaro IROC in the air all weekend to the delight of the fans. Looking every bit at home in the car show as well as on the track, this former SC feature car is based out of Long Island.

The field at Maple Grove didn't take long to fill up Saturday and Sunday, despite some rainy weather in the mid-Atlantic area.

Over in the Tri-Five area, Project American Heroes I, the all-new '57 ragtop we built with The Roadster Shop for the Armed Forces Foundation, made an appearance with its new owner.

The Maple Grove swap meet was filled with the usual variety of rare and interesting parts, like this '70-'72 Chevelle column shift with tach gauge cluster.

Glenn Hunter hasn't missed a Maple Grove show since 1987 with this True Street/DOT '56 Chevy. Running quicker and faster every year, the Tri-Five has a 555 stroker with a Whipplecharger screw blower. He ran a trio of 8.60s in the Super Chevy True Street Challenge to win the overall title this year. According to Glen, he'll be back next year digital fuel injection, which he hopes will get him closer to the 7s.

You don't see a lot of Cranberry Red '70 Chevelles with Duramax diesel power underhood, so when you do it's sure to attract a lot of attention.

Scott Bodine of Mt. Holly, New Jersey, lit up the hides on this street-legal '68 Chevelle at Maple Grove before posting an 11-second pass in the DOT class. Over a hundred cars were entered for this category alone.

The Revell Make N Take at Maple Grove featured a C2 Corvette kit for kids to build this year, and we even spied a few parents building cars alongside their younglings.

Though still a bit esoteric, '58 Chevys have slowly been growing in popularity the last few years, and Gordon Degler's stunning 348-powered Impala shows that the "oddball" Chevy of the post '55 era can still turn heads today.

Running out of Staten Island, New York, Richie Bianco's 1963 Chevy II made his annual trek down to Super Chevy Maple Grove, running in Bracket 1. Bianco's eye-catching racer was one of the quicker door-slammers racing over the weekend with an 8.23 second dial-in.

Big tires and a hefty blower showed that this DOT car was out for some serious time slips in DOT. A number of competitors ran DOT and True Street, then also opt to run in one of the bracket classes.

Joe Rugolsky from Wantagh, New York, campaigned this '62 Chevy in DOT. An uncle gave him the car 31 years ago. It is powered by a 409, backed by a Richmond five-speed, and ran a best e.t. of 13.19. Joe gets the car out only two or three times a year and is an iron worker on the new Freedom Tower, which will replace the fallen World Trade Center buildings.

George Senior Jr. brought out this magnificent '55 Two-Lane Blacktop movie clone built by his brother, who recently died. It was a focal point of the car show area for two days.

It's got a 502 Rat, M22, and 4.88 gears in an Olds rear. When George is feeling really wild, he drives it from Long Island to his job in Manhattan!
