Sucp 1210 02 Super Chevy Show Series Bring Out The Big Guns

Once again for 2012, the Virginia Super Chevy Show was a treat to attend. With a field full of unique and interesting show cars to check out, rows and rows of swap meet booths to scour for hidden treasures, and impressive duels taking place on the Virginia Motorsports Park quarter-mile, co-author Rod Short and I didn't get a chance to catch our breath till the following Monday.

We dodged a threat of rain over the weekend, and the fans still came out in droves to see all the action. So many people were flooding through the gate on Saturday morning it took us 45 minutes just to get inside. The Gold Class was packed with six cars of impeccable quality chosen by the judges, and picking contestants for our AMSOIL Best of the Best competition, presented by Danchuk and Classic Muscle, wasn't an easy task. And the Revell Make-N-Take was on site, giving kids a chance to build their first Chevy, and plant the seeds of inspiration for the future car building generation. c=

David Kissner brought out his bright red '68 Nova survivor. It was originally purchased in November of '67 by Michael Garrett, who owned the car until 2010 when he sold it to David. It sports a 295hp 350, M20 four-speed, power steering, and a 3.31 geared Posi-equipped rear.

Tim Harper's immaculate street-driven Chevy was the overall winner in DOT for the third year in a row with times in the low 8s. Powered by a big-block with a ProCharger, Tim's car is a regular at many races and cruise-in's around the Richmond, Virginia, area.

Brenda Dunn bought her '64 Malibu SS convertible brand new, and enjoys driving it just as much today. Brenda even still has the April 1964 dated letter from GM General Sales Manager L.H. Averill thanking her for purchasing a new Chevrolet.

Doug Winters returned to Virginia Motorsports Park this year with an eye catching new livery on his venerable '57. The car ran just as good as it looks with low 6-second times at speeds approaching 220 mph in the quarter.

Super Chevy regular and great guy Tommy Nolen hauled his gorgeous '62 Vette out to VMP. Don't see dog dishes on a C2 very often! Tommy's '61 Impala was our Fullsize winner in the AMSOIL Best of the Best national competition in 2011 and he can always be counted on to bring out a spectacular ride.
