2011 Super Chevy Show Edmonton Alberta Canada - Into The Great White North

The Super Chevy Show heads north of the border for some Bow Tie action in Edmonton, Canada.

Three quarters of the way through the 2011 Super Chevy Show season, we had to break out our passports and head north for Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We weren’t sure what to expect, since an SC Show had never ventured into foreign territory before. But, if there’s one constant with any of our events, it’s that Bow Tie fanatics seem to come from all over and enjoy the racing and car show action.

The folks at Castrol Raceway had everything set for a great event, and next year we can’t wait to see how much bigger it will be once the new road course they’re installing is finished. AMSOIL Best of the Best, presented by Danchuk, was rockin’, the kids were having fun building their own Chevys in the Revell Make-N-Take tent, and freelancer Robert McGaffin and I had plenty of cool cars to look at.

The year 1969 was the last dance for high-performance fullsize muscle from Chevy, and the SS427 cars are a rare breed— especially in convertible form. Pete Shaw drove his 800 miles from British Columbia to the show. Impressive considering the only thing big-blocks don’t pass are gas stations.

Tom Hollinshead brought out a real treat, his two super-rare third-gen Camaros (yes, there is such a thing!). Starting in ’89, Chevy produced a special series of 1LE Camaros for the Canadian Players’ Challenge series. These cars featured hand-built engines with special performance chips and factory dyno testing. The ’89 was actually raced in the series, while the Medium Quasar Blue ’92 1LE next to it was never raced and is in as-new condition.
