2011 Super Chevy Show At Maple Grove - The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Chevys

The Super Chevy Show series made its annual stop at Maple Grove Raceway for the biggest show of the year

With the summer event season kicking into high gear, the Super Chevy crew made its way to the hills of Pennsylvania west of Philly, where tucked away in a small valley Maple Grove Raceway sat waiting for an invasion of Chevy muscle.

Sponsored this year by Twisted Tea, the Maple Grove event always turns out to be one of the hottest (literally and figuratively) on the tour, but this year we couldn't believe our good fortune. Mother Nature paid us with unusually cool temps on Friday and Saturday. While Sunday was definitely hot, it was still below the norm for the Grove. One good thing about Maple Grove is the grass areas where the car show and swap meet take place, sparing everyone the heat-radiating effects of a monstrous plane of asphalt.

The variety of show cars at the Grove is always fantastic, the racer turnout huge, and the track itself an enjoyable place to spend a weekend. We can't wait for 2012.

The terms “four-speed” and “station wagon” rarely come together from the factory. We nearly lost it when we spotted Jim Brady’s ’69 Chevelle Concours Estate wagon. Jim has the dealer invoice to prove the car’s authenticity too, including the fact that it left the factory with a 300hp 350 backed by an M20 trans. Jim also has an original ’72 Chevelle wagon with factory big-block and four-speed.

Amidst the performance doldrums of the ’70s, Chevy enthusiasts could at least rejoice in ’77 as the Z28 returned to the Camaro lineup. Terry Yiengst bought his used in January of ’79 after spotting it while driving by a used-car lot and fell in love at first sight. It had less than 5K miles on the clock then, but now has over 92K and was repainted in 2005.
