The annual All-GM Car Show put on by National Parts Depot has established itself as one of the premier events in the southeast. Not only do the first 500 pre-registered cars get in free, but there's more to do than just sit in a lawn chair and swap BS.
Held at the Silver Springs nature park in Ocala, Florida, you can see all kinds of wild animals in a natural setting, take a glass bottom boat ride on the crystal-clear waters of the park, and generally enjoy a heck of a show in a serene setting. The springs pump some 550 million gallons of pure water every day, enough to supply the needs of New York City. There are bear exhibits, snakes, alligators and crocodiles for your viewing pleasure.
If your idea of wildlife is untamed Chevelles, Camaros, Corvettes and other wonders of the world from GM, this is the show for you. There were 621 sterling examples of the General's finest, including over 40 SSRs courtesy of the Florida Chapter of the SS Fanatics club, more than 150 Corvettes, nine Corvairs of every stripe, including a Greenbriar camper, a 180-horse Corsa turbo and a pickup, and 25 El Caminos (23 of which were courtesy of the Region 6 Chapter of the National El Camino Owners Association.
National Parts Depot, which has its warehouse just down the road from Silver Springs, puts this event on as a sort-of customer appreciation day and always trots out some of the nicest cars from its collection of over 150 cars. This year that included a couple of gorgeous GTOs, a stunning, unrestored '71 Buick Riviera,
The Super Chevy Editor's Choice award went to the recently completed '72 SS454 Chevelle of Jason Danler. His father purchasd the car new and turned it over to him to enjoy and restore. The restomod project was done in a glittering silver that echoed the original color.
We're also proud to announce that Source Interlink Media/Super Chevy Executive Vice President Doug Evans was the recipient of the Lee Iacocca Award for his efforts on behalf of the old car hobby and aftermarket industry. This is a very prestigious award and a donation will be made to the Iacocca foundation to fight diabetes.
