12.16 @ 115.66: The LS6 454 power came not only in a Chevelle, but in a Corvette for '71 only. Between rounds, Larry Weymouth carefully checked his Corvette to make sure it was tuned razor sharp. It was. Low 12-second e.t.'s made it one of the quickest Chevrolets of the weekend. Larry's amazing 60-foot times (he ran a best of 1.857) helped him shave his e.t. to a blazing 12.161 during Round 2. Larry and his brother, Mark, are big musclecar collectors and racers.12.16 @ 115.66: The LS6 454 power came not only in a Chevelle, but in a Corvette for '71 o 11.79 @ 116.15: Here's your fastest non-Corvette at this year's Pure Stock Drags, Peter Simpson's ZL-1-spec '69 Camaro. It's a bear, a former Pure Stock Drags Top Gun, and always a contender in the final rounds. If you're shooting for the top, you've gotta get by Peter. Peter raced this year's eventual Top Gun, Jimmy Johnston, in a high-octane final.11.79 @ 116.15: Here's your fastest non-Corvette at this year's Pure Stock Drags, Peter Si 12.76 @ 112.73: Novas offer a reasonable buy-in cost and one of the best power-to-weight ratios. In his Cortez Silver '70 Nova SS396, Tony Ragla took on Dave Hemker's '70 GS455 Buick. Dave redlighted Rounds 1 and 3 in an attempt to hang, but it was a Nova victory.12.76 @ 112.73: Novas offer a reasonable buy-in cost and one of the best power-to-weight r 12.09 @ 117.49: Rob Clary, one of the Pure Stock Drags' young guns, made the list of the Top 5 Fastest Chevrolets in his '69 Yenko Camaro. Clones are welcome at the race, but this one is a genuine Yenko. Rob's worked his e.t. down every year, and it's now just a heartbeat away from the 11s. It's so good to see the real deal in action.12.09 @ 117.49: Rob Clary, one of the Pure Stock Drags' young guns, made the list of the T 11.58 @ 120.93: L88 vs. Hemicuda: Corvette dominance continued this year. Quickest e.t. of the weekend was run by Julie Pennington. Her 11.58 almost equaled last year's record-breaking 11.54. She had no trouble dispatching the fastest Mopar of the meet, a '70 Hemicuda.11.58 @ 120.93: L88 vs. Hemicuda: Corvette dominance continued this year. Quickest e.t. of 11.66 @ 122.10: In the shootout between the two quickest qualifiers, Jimmy Johnston and his '69 L88-spec Corvette faced his old racing buddy Peter Simpson in his smokin' '69 ZL-1-powered Camaro. Peter's a very nice guy and a very tough racer, but it was Jimmy with the goods under the hood, shutting down his bud in two straight.11.66 @ 122.10: In the shootout between the two quickest qualifiers, Jimmy Johnston and hi Pure Stock Drags Top 10*   Best E.T./MPH Car Owner 10. 12.317 @ 113.39 1970 Buick GS455 Chris Robertson 9. 12.375 @ 112.58 1969 Dodge Super Bee Paul Petcou 8. 12.332 @ 117.23 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T Jim Keyes 7. 12.098 @ 114.60 1969 Dodge Super Bee Bob Karakashian 6. 12.096 @ 117.49 1969 Yenko Camaro Rob Clary 5. 12.208 @ 113.90 1969 Dodge Super Bee Jim Spetzman 4. 12.039 @ 118.46 1970 Hemicuda Bob Karakashian 3. 11.586 @ 120.93 1969 Corvette Julie Pennington 2. 11.797 @ 116.15 1969 Camaro Peter Simpson 1. 11.665 @ 122.10 1969 Corvette Jimmy Johnston * Note: Rankings are based on qualifying e.t.'s, which differ slightly from the best e.t.'s shown here.
