The "thud" heard just outside of Detroit, Michigan Sunday (9/10) mayhave been Randy Adler shutting the door on the rest of the field in theSuper Chevy Show's Mickey Thompson Nitro Coupe challenge. Adler, fromTinley Park, IL, outdueled Michigan's Brian Robbins for the Nitro Coupetitle in Milan. That win leaves the other championship contenders withonly three events left to haul in Adler, who scored the Nitro Coupeworld championship in 2004 as a rookie.
In the final, Adler turned in a workmanlike 6.431 at 222.81 miles perhour in his 2006 Pontiac GTO to take the win over Robbins, whose HurstOldsmobile turned in a 6.538 at 222.63 miles per hour. Adler now leadsthe World Championship chase by 50 points over his nearest rival, Tony"Sandman" Williams of Millington, Tennessee, with only three events leftto make up ground.
In the TREMEC Transmission Car Show, a Canadian beauty made it to the"Car of the Show" as the 1955 Chevy of Richard Ruiter of Guelpli,Ontario took the top prize. Cars from North of the border competed in atough field in two days of judging.
Chevy fanatics in the Milan Dragway crowd got to feast their eyes on thenew Camaro as well as several other new models and concept cars from GM.
The Milan drag strip kept its reputation for quickness and tractionthroughout the event with a big crowd of not only Chevys but also all GMbrands which are welcome in the three classes of racing (complete raceresults follow).
It's Homecoming weekend for the Super Chevy Show this weekend with anevent at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio. After that it's outto San Antonio September 29 -October 1 before the season finale atGainesville Raceway October 20-22.
