It's tough trying to pick a favorite Super Chevy Show, because when you get right down to it, they're all a blast. In the eye of the beholder, there are factors that do make one show more enjoyable than another. Location is one dynamic, the quality and car count as another, and still another is the drag racing. For some, the show's proximity to home base may even be a factor. For me the Denver show at Bandimere Speedway came really close to surpassing the one at the New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire, as my favorite show.

The quality of cars on hand was superb, the racing just plain awesome, and the venue, well, you couldn't ask for better. As usual, the event promoters AutoStar Productions and staff worked their collective butts off providing everyone with a memorable and enjoyable show. They've developed quite a stellar reputation for this over the years. I could babble on about the particulars, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'm gonna close and serve you up the equivalent of about 40,000 of 'em. Take a look, enjoy, and start making plans to check out the Denver show next season. Believe me, you'll have a ball.
Mike Rothwell's Wellington, Colorado-based bright red '66 Nova is a perfect example of the class of cool Super Chevys that participated in the car show. | Speaking of high class, how about Darren Maynard's awesome pearl orange '69. If this baby won't stop you in your tracks, then nothin' will. | Here's a cool B-body. Bill Frye's slammed, red '66 SS is right down my alley, and if I'd had two nickels to rub together, I might have made him an offer he couldn't refuse! |
The street rod contingent was well represented in Denver, too. One stellar example was Lane and Pam Laugesen's beautiful '38 five-window coupe. | I'll be the first to admit that Vettes are not my favorite Super Chevy flavor, but Jason Purdum's eye-searing yellow '66 went a long way in changing that mindset for me. This car is so chock-full of cool mods and details that you could spend hours checking them all out. | Another bitchin' B-body that really got my attention was Brian Nekvasil's Thornton, Colorado-based '61 Impala. It's just got "the look." |
Here's another fine example of classic Chevy 'glass. This neat '62 Vette is the pride and joy of Brighton, Colorado's, Larry Fitzgerald.
Doug Case is the rightfully proud owner of this spotless '72 Chevelle SS. He made his way to Denver from Littleton to enjoy the show. | Late-models are welcome at Super Chevy Shows, as well. Landon March's tricked-out '95 Z28 is a fine example. | Denver resident Dave Gonzales didn't have to travel very far to get to the show, but once he got there, all eyes were on his stunning '55 hardtop. This car is another fine specimen of the top-quality iron that's a staple at Super Chevy Shows. |
Speaking of pristine Camaros, Derek Waidenhamer's yellow '67 was on the money. Nice ride, Derek. | Oooooh, V-8 Vegas are one of my favorites. Greg Boynton's '75 hatchback is one cool car, it makes me wish I'd had enough gumption to have dropped a small-block in the old man's '75 Vega wagon back when I was wrench-twistin' lad. | Take one look and it'll be no surprise that Patrick Wightman of Alba, New Mexico, won the Saturday Special American Colorscans Outstanding Graphics Award with his '55 Chevy. Pat doesn't baby that Delivery either. It's got more miles under its belt than most, some of 'em to rescue wayward rodders, too, right Pat? |
I told 'em if they didn't quit washin' it so often, the darned thing would shrink!
