But, that's the way it's happened the last couple years at US 131 Dragway, which was recently renovated to become probably Michigan's finest drag racing facility. The caliber of racers and car show participants was second to none, too, including local hero Mike Tafil. Hailing from Shelbyville, Michigan, just up the road from the strip, his twin-turbo, alcohol-sipping and injected '85 Monte Carlo SS shook the stands. The car's best e.t. is an incredible 7.40, but he "only" was in the 8s at SCS. So, whether from the sky or on the asphalt, Martin thundered the entire weekend. Interestingly, almost every car in the Tremec-sponsored Gold Class at Martin was a Chevelle SS.
