Randy Adler and his '57 Chevy took the Nitro Coupe honors at Martin, beating Tommy Haynes with a 6.50/226 blast to the losing 6.95/201 run.

It's getting to be an unwelcome SCS tradition at Martin, Michigan-wait out the summertime thunderstorm long enough to watch the Chicago Outlaws try to bust up their oil pans with wheels-up launches, cruise the Manufacturers Midway and swap meet for deals, and take in the plethora of perfect Chevys in the show field, then dodge under a tent for the next storm to blow through and start the process over.

But, that's the way it's happened the last couple years at US 131 Dragway, which was recently renovated to become probably Michigan's finest drag racing facility. The caliber of racers and car show participants was second to none, too, including local hero Mike Tafil.

Hailing from Shelbyville, Michigan, just up the road from the strip, his twin-turbo, alcohol-sipping and injected '85 Monte Carlo SS shook the stands. The car's best e.t. is an incredible 7.40, but he "only" was in the 8s at SCS.

So, whether from the sky or on the asphalt, Martin thundered the entire weekend.
