Step By Step

The performance of the Corvette and the power-heavy surroundings make Race Rock the perfect venue for this event.

This shark was definitely ready to rumble, and could have taken on any car inside Race Rock.

John “Hutch” and Patti Hutchinson from Orlando were on hand with their ’96 Grand Sport convertible proudly flying the Stars and Stripes.

Sea World and Mickey Mouse were demoted to second-class attractions on Easter Sunday 2002, as the local and not-so-local Corvette constituency convened on the Race Rock Restaurant (www.racerock.com) on International Drive, Orlando, to participate in the second Vettes at the Rock event.

More than 125 Corvettes, ranging from straight-axles to fresh deliveries, assembled in the parking lot of the restaurant. The owners took the opportunity to share experiences, swap stories, and simply enjoy each other’s rides. As the temperature outside got hotter, attendees appreciated the air conditioning inside the restaurant, and the good meal that went with it.

Where else can you enjoy a sit-down meal only a few feet from John Force’s Top Fuel Dragster? Dirt bikes perch overhead, and dragsters, drag bikes, racing boats, and memorabilia from a hundred different forms of motor sports entertain the eye.

The horsepower inside the building was rivaled only by the horsepower outside in the parking lot. Shade trees helped keep attendees cool, and neighboring helicopter and train rides kept the entertainment level high. Awards were given for “Best of” classes as well as People’s Choice awards.

Proceeds for the event were donated to The Russell Home for Atypical Children (www.russellhome.org), a private, non-profit facility for severely handicapped children in Central Florida. A fun time in an exciting atmosphere with interesting people for a great cause—what better way is there to spend your Easter?
