Car shows are no-doubt fun places to be, but sometimes it’s even more enjoyable to actually see the cars being driven! That’s one of our favorite parts of the Goodguys events and here at the 19th annual Southwest Nationals.
Today we watched as competitors hit the autocross hard as they make shakedown runs before qualifying tomorrow morning. The top thirty-two times will make it into the eliminator shoot-out tomorrow afternoon and whoever finishes first overall for the whole year becomes a part of the Goodguys Top 12 to be awarded next to other amazing cars.
The Goodguys shows have been going on since the late 1980s and have recently made the autocross competition a staple. So much work have gone into a lot of these old muscle cars and at most events all they would be used for is eye candy but here they are actually being run—and run hard—like they were built to be. Check out the gallery from today’s racing and make sure to keep your eyes peeled to our site for the rest of the Goodguys show coverage the rest of the weekend.
