After careful deliberation and without further ado, HOT ROD is proud to present the rules for the 2017 AMSOIL Engine Masters competition. This year's event will again be held at the University of Northwestern Ohio using SuperFlow dynamometers. The classes are as follows:
Spec Blower Shootout
For the first time in Engine Masters history, boost will be part of the winning equation. Vortech Superchargers has stepped up to provide a discounted spec-blower package to Engine Masters competitors. The class is open to LS, Mod Motor (including Coyote), and Gen III Hemi engine platforms, and all competitors will use the same model of centrifugal supercharger, with the same drive ratio. Factory blocks, and heads will be mandatory and maximum displacement will be capped at 380ci.
After two years of fruitful and exciting competition, the vintage class will return for 2017. This class encourages competitors to think out of the box and revive unique, highly aesthetic, and often-forgotten engine architectures with new-age horsepower-producing techniques. The rules have remained largely the same with the amendment that aluminum heads will no longer be allowed in competition.
Harkening back to the glory days of muscle, this class will include both big- and small-blocks from 1955 and later normally aspirated OEM production cars. Street-style heads will be required, and race-only parts will be prohibited. Pick your brand-allegiance and go to battle in this widely open mash up of domestic V8s.
