The Mecum Auction Company starts its automotive events each year at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. They offer buyers a wide variety of vehicles to select from: classics to late-models. In addition, a large assortment of automotive memorabilia is available for buyers to choose from. This is the 14th year that Mecum has held their auction in Kissimmee. The site offers easy access and the large facility provides plenty of room to showcase their offerings. When buyers enter a Mecum auction they are required to register. Once they are approved, they can inspect any car they are qualified to buy before it is taken to the auction stage. Large tents store the cars so there is plenty of time to determine a vehicle’s condition.
Vette magazine attends this event annually to provide you with Corvette sales trends. It is easy to document what buyers are willing to pay for inexpensive, non-collector examples all the way to top-dollar NCRS or Bloomington Gold certified collectibles. Corvettes are popular at Kissimmee. This year, 370 were offered for sale and 234 sold for a sell through rate of 63 percent. These results are based the auction ending on January 12. After the auction’s close, 136 Corvettes did not find buyers or meet their owner’s reserve. They were placed into Mecum’s “The Bid Goes On” category. Hopefully, many of these Bid Goes On cars will find new owners. The most current sales can be found at www.mecum.com. In 2018, 295 Corvettes were offered and 212 sold for a sell through rate of 72 percent.
Corvettes captured two of the Top 10 highest sales at the auction. Coming in Third was Lot F151 that included two black 1969 L88 Corvettes. They sold for $990,000. In Ninth place was Lot S174, a 1963 Z06 coupe. (It did not have RPO code N03, 36-gallon fuel tank.) It sold for $396,000. As a comparison, at the 2018 Mecum Kissimmee auction, an N03-equipped Z06 sold for $456,000. Other generation highs included Lot F163, an unrestored 1959 convertible with 2,195 original miles that sold for $167,200. Lot K110 was a 1,515-mile 1990 Corvette ZR-1 that sold for $36,300. Lot T103 was a CRC Coachworks 2001 convertible with 11,000 miles rebodied with 1962 replica bodywork. It sold for $71,500. Lot S120.1 was a 638hp 2009 Corvette ZR1 with 179 miles. It sold for $82,500. Lot U117.1 was a Sebring Orange 2019 ZR1 convertible with an automatic. It sold for $151,250.

Mecum President Dana Mecum assists in raising the bid on this ex-Joie Chitwood Thrill Show 1958 Corvette (Lot S179). It features a 283/290hp fuel-injected engine and was used by Mr. Chitwood in 1958 as a demonstration vehicle during his thrill shows. The shows utilized Chevrolet products. The Corvette was bid to $160,000, but did not meet its reserve so it was placed in the Bid Goes On area.
The Osceola Heritage Park arena was filled with bidders during the January 3-13 auction. TV crews on stage showed prospective buyers close-up details of each car being presented. The red 1952 Ford pickup (Lot F147) on the stage Friday sold for $220,000. The buyer donated the truck to the 50 Legs Foundation charity. It was resold Saturday as Lot S112.1 and resold for $82,500. All proceeds went to www.50legs.org.
These two GM styling cars (Lot S180) were developed by GM to honor the company’s corporate design leaders Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell. The 1963 convertible in the foreground was gifted to Mr. Earl after he retired from GM. The 1964 coupe was used by Mr. Mitchell to prototype upgrades for future Corvettes. This included one-piece side windows, four-wheel disc brakes and a three-speed automatic transmission.
Mr. Earl was an aviation enthusiast and the design team filled the inside of his 1963 Corvette convertible with instruments that mimicked those used in airplanes.
Mr. Mitchell was a Ferrari enthusiast. His 1964 coupe featured wire wheels, front fender side grilles and trumpet exhaust tips that were used on the Italian sport car. The vent-less side windows were used on the 1968 production Corvette. Mr. Mitchell regularly drove this distinctive coupe.
The interior of the Mitchell coupe featured 1965 leather seats and leather-wrapped instrument panel, glove box cover and console. It also included a tilt, telescopic steering column and “chaser” safety lights in the door panels that illuminate when the door opens.
Harley Earl lived in West Palm Beach, Florida, and drove this car in that area for two years. He traded it in at a used car lot where the owner of a Palm Beach shoe store purchased it. Ferrell Dooley, sitting in the passenger seat, bought the Corvette from the shoe store owner, and was the third owner. The driver is Mike Ardito; he works for Mecum Auctions.
The styling cars were offered as a pair and received a high bid of $1,700,000, but did not meet the owner’s reserve. The Bid Goes On where they may sell in the near future.
This Ermine White 1967 coupe (Lot F130.1) has 2,996 original miles. It has been preserved unrestored in as-new condition. It includes an L36 427/390hp engine with many options. The high bid was $500,000, but did not meet its reserve so the Bid Goes On.
The red interior of this 1967 coupe (Lot F130.1) is in new original condition and everything functions as it did when it left the St. Louis Assembly plant.
Bloomington Gold founder David Burroughs has closely inspected this 1967 Corvette (Lot F130.1), including this factory fresh big-block. He has confirmed that it is a factory time capsule on how they were originally built. It should serve as an authentic guideline for owners seeking a Survivor certification for their Corvette.
This Polo White 1954 Corvette (Lot T138) has been driven 500 miles since its recent restoration and sold for $104,500.
Only 300 Corvettes were delivered in Pennant Blue like the example shown here (Lot K241.1). The 1954 roadster features a beige interior and sold for $84,700. This same car sold for $77,500 (Lot S64.1) at the 2017 Mecum Kissimmee Auction.
The beige interior on this 1954 Corvette (Lot K241.1) provides a striking contrast to the Pennant Blue exterior on this frame-off restored classic roadster.
This 1957 airbox, fuel-injected Corvette (Lot S140) left the St. Louis plant on May 15, 1957, and was one of 43 built with the airbox option. It has received numerous awards and it was bid to $500,000 and did not meet its reserve. The Bid Goes On.
Arctic Blue on this 1957 convertible (Lot T123) was a one-year only Corvette color. This very nice example with silver coves and red interior was fitted with a 283/220hp engine. Options included a four-speed transmission, both tops, heater/defroster and signal-seeking AM radio. It sold for $66,000.
This numbers-matching Fawn Beige 1962 Corvette (Lot K223) was delivered with a four-barrel carburetor and the odometer shows 51,000 miles. It was bid to $65,000 but did not meet its reserve, so the Bid Goes On.
The Corvette Authority restored this Tuxedo Black 1963 Z06 (Lot S174) in 2016. It has received NCRS Top Flight and NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence awards. It is fitted with the Z06 special performance package (one of 199 built), radio delete and an L84 fuel-injected 327/360hp engine. It sold for $396,000.
Option code N03 (36-gallon fuel tank) was fitted to 63 Corvette Z06s in 1963. This Ermine White example (Lot F157) was bid to $500,000 and did not meet its reserve. The Bid Goes On.
This Tuxedo Black 1967 coupe (Lot F155.1) was filled with many desirable options. High bid was $145,000, but the Bid Goes On.
Mosport Green is a striking color on this 1966 Corvette (Lot W123). It includes a 427/390hp engine and M21 four-speed. It was bid to $100,000, but the Bid Goes On.
This Marlboro Maroon 1967 Corvette convertible (Lot F252) has 14,560 documented miles. It has an L71 427/435hp big-block. It received a bid of $150,000, but the Bid Goes On.
This L71 427/435hp big-block (Lot F252) fills the engine compartment of the Marlboro Maroon 1967 convertible. This is the highest horsepower offering for Corvette in 1967 (the L88 was rated at 430 hp).
Two L88 1969 Corvettes (Lot F151) were sold as a pair. This included a convertible (in the foreground) and a coupe. They sold for $990,000, which was the top selling price for a Corvette at Kissimmee.
This 1978 Indy Pace Car replica (Lot F230) had 34 original miles and included an L82 350/220hp engine and automatic transmission. A total of 6,502 replicas were produced and this one sold for $34,100.
This Silver Mist 1974 convertible (Lot J46) was equipped with the LS4 454/270hp engine. It showed 85,805 miles on its clock and sold for $20,350.
This 1990 “King of the Hill” coupe (Lot K110) with a 375hp LT5 engine has been driven 1,515 miles since new. It sold for $36,300 and was the top C4 seller in the auction.
This Magnetic Red 2000 C5 convertible (Lot J51) has been driven 70,549 miles. Its overall appearance was good and it did not seem abused. It sold for $13,200 and if everything works, it was a good buy for its new owner.
The Michael Fux Collection offered this 2009 ZR1 (Lot S120.1) with 179 miles. This car was capable of 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 209 mph. Power comes from a 376/638hp LS9 supercharged engine. This was the top C6 Corvette supercar and it sold for $82,500.
In January 2005, the C6 Z06 was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show. It was filled with high-tech, lightweight aluminum and magnesium components. This Sunset Orange 2006 Z06 (Lot S120) from the Michael Fux collection has only been driven 212 miles since new. It sold for $44,000.
This Torch Red 2018 C7 Corvette coupe (Lot K308) with the base suspension has been driven a total of 5,000 miles. It was nicely equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the 3LT premium interior package. It sold for $47,850.
