There’s no cooler way to welcome in Spring than by planning a road trip to the beach to take in plenty of sun and surf. Now imagine the sounds of adrenaline-boosting V-8–powered Chevelles, Camaros, Novas, Tri-Fives, and other classic Chevy muscle setting the pace for a weekend horsepower festival where everything you can imagine rolls into town. Blown big-blocks, twin-turbo small-blocks, killer LSs, and everything in between rumble the boardwalk, making their presence known. We’re here to tell you that the 27th Annual Cruisin’ Ocean City held in Ocean City, Maryland, brought together everything you could dream of, creating one of the most unique, fun-filled weekends in the country for automotive enthusiasts.
The quaint seaside community welcomes well over 3,000 registered car owners every May to cruise its 10-mile strip and experience firsthand the magic that makes this event so cool. With groomed beaches, deep surf, and a boardwalk that stretches for miles, it’s a perfect setting for burning fuel from dawn till dark. This is a true driving event where there are plenty of things to experience throughout the weekend to keep you moving. The first stop being “the inlet” acts as the epicenter for the weekend’s festivities, featuring parking for up to 1,500 of the hottest muscle cars, hot rods, and customs in town. It gets full early but turns over regularly since there are plenty of events happening all across the strip throughout the day.
The area includes an old-time amusement park, taking you back in time and features everything from a haunted house, arcades, Ferris wheel, and food vendors offering tasty bites that you’ll remember from when you were knee-high to a Chevelle bumper. As the weekend continues, you have a chance to get a special ticket letting you take part in an early morning cruise down the boardwalk as hundreds of fans cheer you on. From there you can check out myriad of other happenings across town at venues like the Convention Center with other mini events at places like Crab Alley, Harpoon Hanna’s, and Phillips Crab House to name but a few.
This isn’t a typical car show that rolls up the fun once the day ends, though. When evening hits, thousands gather on the strip to watch the parade as hundreds of hot rods and muscle cars cruise the avenue late into the night.
The promoters create even more excitement throughout the weekend with celebrity guests, numerous trophy award ceremonies, scheduled entertainment, and even a classic car auction. Cruisin’ Ocean City always manages to sell out well in advance, so plan ahead for next year! You can check it all out at specialeventpro.com.
