Performance is the name of the game with Corvettes. Possibly unlike any other car that has ever graced a paved road the Corvette brand is synonymous with high performance and racing. Whether it be drag racing, autocross or a road course challenge Corvettes can always be counted on to be counted on!
We find ourselves at the first ever Holley LS Fest West hosted at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway adjacent to Nellis Air Force Base. What’s significant ab out that is the continuous really, really powerful fighter jets continually taking off giving the true meaning to horsepower! You know what they say, “Trust the thrust.”
In traditional LS Fest faire the event is loaded with just about every measure of a car or trucks performance including but not limited to a dyno challenge, autocross, road course, drift challenge, and a good ol’ mundane but very fun poker run.
But Corvettes being Corvettes we found plenty running hard and oftentimes setting the standard on the road course and the drag strip. The LS Fest West is utilizing the 2.4 mile, 12-turn “Outside Road Course” portion of Las Vegas Motor Speedway to conduct our Road Course Challenge. It’s an ideal setting for the weekend racer yet offers plenty of lefts and rights within its 12 turns to hone ones skills. It’s sanctioned by the USCA (Ultimate Street Car Association) and The Road Course Challenge is open to any make and model of vehicle powered by a GM LS or LT powerplant. The segment will be timed and a $500 Holley/MSD product certificate will be awarded to the individual who posts the fastest lap time on the circuit.
This is a high speed course lest you think this is for the mild of heart, it isn’t! Cars are being put together in groups of 12-15 vehicles at a time, and yes, you can pass…but be careful and follow the rules of engagement.
In the world of drag racing it’s 1,320 feet of hard pack asphalt and the LVMS track is continually well-prepped for all the racers. You better be making horsepower, and that shouldn’t be a problem with an LS/LT motor as your tires will get plenty of grip. The side-by-side action has blossomed into grudge and test-n-tune classes…very cool and loads of fun with lots of runs for these guys. Think of it as your Saturday night weekend grudge match racing.
Well, sit back and swipe through our photo gallery of Corvettes of all years making runs at the road course and the drag strip as performance is king on this weekend.
