Well the 22nd Annual Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance is in the books and as usual it was a great week to be a car guy in the Northeast corner of Florida. Maybe the big news this year was the last minute change in schedule moving the Concours from the normal Sunday to Saturday due to inclement weather scheduled to move into the area on Sunday. The last minute change proved to be a good call as the show field was filled to overflowing with spectators and exhibitors. With over 300 cars on display on the big Concours D’Elegance show field we spent all afternoon checking out everything from brass era cars to a large selection of cars raced by Al Unser Sr. Anyone familiar with almost any type of racing knows the name and his race cars ranged from open wheel Indy cars to Camaros and sprint cars, after all the “Big Al” has won everything from Pikes Peak to Indy to Daytona. The cars were almost as impressive as the man.
Usually Saturday is reserved for other support events like the big Cars and Coffee show held on the same golf course, but with the Concours D’Elegance moved to Saturday it became the Amelia Island super show, Cars and Coffee and the Concours on the same day. It proved to be a full day of seeing cars, meeting old friends and making new ones. While we only found three Corvettes in the big show, Vettes proved to be very popular in the Cars and Coffee show. The weather was picture perfect and we added Amelia Island to our growing list of “can’t miss” annual events. We selected fifty photos in an attempt to give you a feel of the show through a Corvette view finder and while this is no comparison to actually going to the show it is the next best thing. Enjoy.
