To most of America the 2017 Super Bowl, or Super Bowl LI, as it’s more properly referred to, was quite possibly the most exciting in history – A great way to kick of February especially if you are a New England Patriots fan. But for those who prefer their sports a “little” louder, faster, and with hundreds or even thousands more angry horsepower, the following weekend in February is exciting in its own right. After all, it marks the beginning of the NHRA drag racing season. Since 1961 fans have flocked to NHRA Winternationals held at fabled Fairplex in Pomona, California, to witness the unveiling of all the new cars, drivers, and sponsors for the season.
At only 1,100 ft. altitude, the track in Pomona is one of the quickest on the NHRA circuit and is responsible for numerous records and arguably carries more tradition and history than any other facility in the sport of drag racing.
Today, the Chevrolet legacy plays a huge part in drag racing, as witnessed by the top eleven Pro Stock cars at the event being 2016 and 2017 Camaro-bodied cars. And if the Nitro Funny Car class is your favorite, John Force Racing is flying the Chevrolet Performance flag with a stable of three Camaro-bodied Funny Cars competing throughout the year driven by 16-time NHRA Champion Force himself, daughter Courtney, and veteran racer Robert Hight.
It’s going to be an exciting year in NHRA drag racing for the Chevy brand, so we are kicking it off with a huge photo gallery featuring the coolest Chevy drag cars from various classes at the 2017 Winternationals.
Enjoy the ride…
