To many car enthusiasts the SEMA Show means hauling your ride to the Las Vegas Convention Center to show off the smooth, shiny paint and intricate details on your ride. The bright lights and energy radiates throughout the show, which has the power to elevate your hot rod like never before. And it should, because people expect to see nothing but the best SEMA has to offer. It’s ’Vegas, baby! Bring your “A” game!
For about 85 or so other muscle car freaks, their idea is a little different; they came to the desert with the sole intention of proving what their cars can do on the track. Sure, they’ll spend a little time with the microfiber towel and some spray cleaner, but the SEMA show is merely a formality; the backstage pre party to their main event: The Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway the Saturday following SEMA.
The event features the coolest and baddest street cars in the world hanging it all out on the road course, autocross, and speed stop challenge, so it’s kind of a big deal. Oh, and these cars are also judged on design and engineering, so it helps to be crafty there too. But these cars didn't make it here based on looks – they had to earn their way by winning or finishing high up during one of Optima’s qualifying events throughout the year. And for us Chevy enthusiasts, there’s plenty of classic and late-model Camaros and Corvettes and vintage Chevelles, and Novas battling for title of the Ultimate Street Car.
So, in order to give props to the folks who made the cut for this year’s event, we’ve put together a gallery of the most kick-ass Chevys that will be competing in the 2016 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational.
