While the rest of the country is starting to prepare its classic cars for winter hibernation, in Florida, the car show season is still in full swing. A decade ago, National Parts Depot began holding a companion GM event similar to its very popular Ford event every January. Set in the idyllic and serene surroundings of the Silver Springs State Park in Ocala, Florida, the NPD GM Oktoberfest brings in cars from as far away as New York for the owners to enjoy an event that is open to all GM-built vehicles, both early- and late-model. This year’s event featured a show field packed with over 400 cars, including the coolest classic Camaros, Novas, Chevelles, and Tri-Fives, as well as newer Camaros and Corvettes. Awards were given out to everything from restored and modified cars to early- and late-models.

This popular East Coast event is put on by Rick Schmidt, president of National Parts Depot. The goal of the event isn’t to turn some sort of financial benefit, but more as a way for the company to facilitate bringing together a variety of enthusiasts to enjoy a great car show, and also to show appreciation for the NPD customers.

Founded in 1976 by Rick’s father, Jim Schmidt, National Parts Depot has become one of the leading restoration parts suppliers for a variety of GM vehicles across all six divisions.
