Why worry about having a place to relax at each HOT ROD Power Tour venue when you could bring your own driving picnic table? That is apparently what Bryan Kordus and John Varga thought.

Bryan and John met last year on Power Tour and became fast friends —which is apparent since they soon set out to build a picnic table with an engine and wheels. Their crazy contraption is capable of seating up to 10 people and cruising around a parking lot at a leisurely 5mph. It’s not fast, but you wouldn’t really want a 100mph bench anyway, especially when you just want to have some fun with your kids.

Brian and John were enlightened about this crazy idea when they saw a driving picnic table someone else had built on the internet. They started with a basic garden tractor and built the whole thing initially with wood. Once everything looked as it should, they tore it all down and fabricated the frame out of boxed-steel.

As you might expect, your local auto parts store doesn’t carry anything for a mobile picnic table, so Bryan and John had to get creative. They used a rack and pinion from a Renault Reliant and a steering column out of a Buick Century while stainless steel was used to fabricate a custom gas tank and exhaust.

The table’s maiden voyage took place during the birthday party of Bryan’s daughter where they drove all the kids around the neighborhood.

Here on HOT ROD Power Tour, it stays off the public roads and is only really used in parking lots. Between stops on Power Tour, Bryan and John throw the table up on a trailer and haul it behind a bright orange Ram 1500.

Every afternoon they can be seen sitting on their hot-rod-red picnic table just relaxing in the shade of a pop-up canopy with friends and family.
