Cruisin’ Ocean City located along a 10-mile strip of the Maryland coast has catered to hot rodders for 25 years. This is one of the more popular eastern events and why shouldn’t it be with the atmosphere of the ocean, sandy beach, amusement park complete with Ferris wheel, roller coaster, and lots of venues to keep ones interest and to fill ones stomach.
Drawing nearly 3,000 hot rod cars and trucks each May the event has shown that it will bring out all kinds of makes, models, and build styles. If you are into early hot rods there’s plenty. How about muscle cars or street cruisers, no problem. And let’s not forget classic trucks from the 1940s through the 1970s and 1980s they are all there. But we haven’t begun to touch upon our favorite…the Corvette.
Corvettes are here every year and they come in all the manners you might expect to see a Vette. Yes there is the restoration but what about the custom approach or how about the race car look (or even a race car!), and arguably the most popular build style of all…the modified street Vette.
While there are plenty of draws and lots to see and amuse over the one major draw for the event is the fact it is right on the beach and all the fun that brings. But once you are there is no mistaking the wooden planks of the boardwalk. While you can take a leisurely walk along the boardwalk how about taking a leisurely cruise on the wooden planks in your Corvette? The promoters make it all happen and it’s fun. Vette owners have the opportunity to drive their C1s through C7s machines on the planks while event attendees, locals and tourists alike can relax along the boardwalk and take in a moving car show. It’s something to behold.
