Cruisin’ Ocean City, Maryland has been around for 25 years and this year’s event was mixed into sun and rain but it didn’t slow down the turnout off hot rods of every make, model, build style and color. Cars or trucks the boardwalk on the beach attracts them all…and why shouldn’t it everything about the trip to the beach is classic hot rod faire.
While there are thousands of hot rods we thought it might be fun to take a look at just the Chevys that show up…whether it be full-size, Corvettes, Camaros, Chevy II’s, or trucks the accompanying photo gallery has something for every Bowtie louver.
Located literally on the boardwalk in Ocean City this hot rod gathering has the feel of a get together at the beach because it is at the beach. You park your hot rod in the wide open spaces of ample parking adjacent to the ocean, the beach, the boardwalk and of course, the atmosphere that a beach amusement park should have. It comes complete with fun food, Ferris wheel, roller coaster and many other attractions intended to keep the kid in all of us entertained when not walking the many rows of cars and trucks. Of course, if you really like walking then there is the famous wooden boardwalk that attracts thousands of tourists yearly. But this event has something special for all hot rodders, while you can take an easy walk along the boardwalk how about taking a leisure cruise on the wooden planks in your hot rod? Yes, the promoters make it happen and it’s fun for all. Rodders get to drive their machines on the planks while event attendees, locals and tourists alike can relax along the boardwalk and take in a moving car show. It’s something to behold.
Every May for the past several decades this 10-mile stretch of the East Coast in Maryland is overrun (and happily we might add!) with 3,000-plus hot rods. We’re talking about a true driving event where once you pull into town and grab your credentials you can spend the better part of the weekend cruising in your ride to a number of hot spots all celebrating one main event.
With your program as your guide, it lets you know where and when the festivities are including a chance to participate in the coveted early morning boardwalk parade with your ride, check out happenings downtown at the Convention Center, and cruises at a number of mini-events including ones at Hooters, Crab Alley, Harpoon Hanna’s and Phillips Crab House.
Crusin’ Ocean City should be on the rodders “bucket list” for any number of reasons but the fact it is fun for the entire family and it’s all accomplished from the seat of your hot rod should be reason enough.
