If you have been itching to see what your Corvette was designed to do, then this video from the WannaGOFAST FL ½ Mile Shootout should provide all the convincing you may need to show up to a 1/2-mile or standing mile event near you. The frustrations you may have with reaction times and launches at the drag strip are not a concern at these events. It’s all about how much power you can lay down – in some cases, not very much. A few weeks ago we witnessed an amazing array of C5s, C6s, and C7s that all put it on the line for top speed glory.
The fight for traction was never so evident as with Vengeance Racing’s “Fat Man.” The twin-turbo C6 Z06 owned by Randy Hunter has hit 201mph (without nitrous) in the past, but struggled to hit 190mph on the cold tarmac of Jumbolair. Even with its ProEFI traction control system, Vengeance wasn’t able to turn up the boost let alone hit the nitrous. That left the twin-turbo Dodge Viper of Andy Mckee in First Place in the Domestic & RWD category on both Saturday and Sunday of the Sponsor Division. Thankfully the C5 Z06 of Eddie Blackwell represented Vengeance Racing well on both days, taking Fastest Naturally Aspirated with 178.0 and 178.85 mph. The C6 of Marshall Davis (166.29mph) and Jeff Baur’s C6 Z06 (162.92mph) took the same title on Saturday and Sunday of the Privateer Division.
WannaGOFAST will hit Hot Springs, VA on 4/30-5/1; Clayton, GA on 5/14-5/15 and 9/17-9/18; French Lick, IN on 10/15-10/16; and Sulphur Springs, TX on 11/12-1/13 of this year. The Florida event sold out in 12 minutes, so don’t hesitate to sign up for one or two days.
