There are certain sounds guaranteed to give any dedicated hot rodder an adrenalin rush. Some of the symphonies include the sound of a big-block V-8 roaring through its pipes, a pair of turbos spooling up, and, of course, a set of meaty rear tires letting the asphalt know who’s boss. We’re here to tell you all those sounds and more filled the air at the 25th Annual Cruisin’ Ocean City event held in Ocean City, Maryland. It’s one of the hottest deals in the country to check out.

Every May the picturesque seaside community opens up its 10-mile strip to well over 3,000 registered cars for a horsepower festival guaranteed to leave you in awe. Attendees get a first-hand experience as to what makes Ocean City so special with its perfectly groomed beaches, killer surf, and a boardwalk stretching as far as the eye can see. We’re talking about a true driving event where once you pull into town and grab your credentials you can spend the better part of the weekend cruising your ride to a number of hot spots all celebrating one main event. Go ahead and leave your lawn chairs at home ’cuz once you hit the strip you’ll be burning plenty of fuel.

The epicenter of the event, known simply as the Inlet, offers a direct link to the weekend’s festivities where a constant flow of extreme muscle cars, unique hot rods, and highly detailed customs make it all come alive. Parking at the Inlet for up to 1,500 cars typically disappears by 10 a.m. but turns over regularly due to the number of events happening up and down the strip throughout the day. Anchored by an old-school amusement park that will induce a smile on your face, the haunted house, and the Ferris wheel contribute to the vintage feel of the event. The boardwalk will take you on a stroll down memory lane. If it sounds like perfection, it is.

With the event program as your guide, you’ll know where and when the festivities take place, including a chance to participate in the coveted early morning boardwalk parade with your ride. From there, you can check out the happenings downtown at the Convention Center, and cruises at a number of mini-events including those at Hooters, Crab Alley, Harpoon Hanna’s, and Phillips Crab House.

After the Inlet clears out for the day, the night begins to unfold with the sounds of badass V-8s echoing across the strip while visitors line the sidewalks to cheer as you cruise from light to light. Every year the promoters add excitement to the party with special celebrity guest appearances, countless trophy award ceremonies, a classic car auction, and scheduled entertainment. This is one event guaranteed to sell out well in advance, so plan accordingly for next year! You can check it all out at specialeventpro.com.
