We’re Back! The Super Chevy Show returns to Tucson and Southwestern International Raceway on May 2-3.
It’s been over a decade since the last Super Chevy Show filled the stands at Southwestern International Raceway (SWIR). Since then, we’ve seen the rebirth of the Camaro, revival of the pony car wars, two new generations of Corvette, a new generation of small-block … err, well, you get the point. A lot has happened since the last time the Bow Tie brigade invaded Tucson, so we’ve got a lot of catching up to do!
For car show entrees there’ll be a variety of ISCA judged classes, covering stock restorations, pro-touring, restomod, and pro-street style Chevy cars and trucks, along with Chevy powered street rods. A select few lucky participants might even have their cars selected for a Super Chevy Magazine Editor’s Choice award and a chance to see their car featured in the pages of Super Chevy Magazine. In addition, Super Chevy Magazine staff and new editor, Evan Perkins, will be covering the event. Now’s your chance to see your Chevy on the national stage!
On the track there’ll be a massive drag racing battle royale. The bracket racing action will be fierce, with Super Pro/Box and Pro/No Box classes and also a street class, which requires DOT tires and mufflers.
Topping that off will be an eight-car, old-school display of nitro power put on by the California Independent Funny Car Association (CIFCA). They will be running the full SWIR quarter mile in heads-up competition. And, as an added spectacle, the Lucas Oil and Mav TV jet cars will be on hand to make the desert landscape rumble with the sound of power and speed.
Lastly, enthusiasts looking for parts, pieces, new projects, or any other sort of automotive related minutiae will find extra entertainment walking the aisles of the Tucson Super Chevy Show swap meet.
