By now you've heard all about the coolest Chevrolet cars featured at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show last week in Las Vegas: The 2014 COPO Camaro, the Corvette Gran Turismo concept, the Atlantic and Pacific Corvette concepts, and more. But what about the trucks and sports utility vehicles? Chevrolet brought a wide variety of awesome non-car vehicles with them to show off to the public. Here at GM High-Tech Performance, we know the importance of having a daily driver, so that your performance car can sit in a warm dry garage on not-so-nice days.
"Chevrolet's lineup of full-size trucks and SUVs is all-new and stronger than ever," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "No matter what your needs, whether it's hauling lumber to a work site, delivering your kid's soccer team to a game or towing your boat on a weekend fishing trip, Chevrolet has the vehicle with the capability, dependability and connectivity today's truck customers want."
To start this off with a bang, let's talk about the truck towing the beautiful 2014 COPO Camaro: the Silverado HD Dually tow vehicle. The crew cab concept was shown at the Chevrolet display prominently and proudly wearing COPO badges on Ice Blue paint. To showcase the hauling capacity of the concept, the truck was hitched to a custom trailer holding the COPO Camaro and a new COPO racing engine and transmission. A few of the stand out features of the truck included lightweight aluminum wheels and Chevrolet Accessories six-inch chrome assist steps, a tool box, and bed lights. A 6.0L gasoline engine powers the truck paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Chevrolet Silverado Cheyenne concept shows Chevy fans that less is more with an EcoTec3 6.2L V-8 powerplant stuffed into a 2014 Silverado regular cab with reduced curb weight. The power-to-weight ratio is strong and the engine leaves little to be desired, seeing as the truck is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The truck features a lowered ride height, rear stabilizer bar, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, and 19-inch charcoal-painted Camaro Z/28 aluminum wheels wrapped in high-performance tires. So where was the extra 200 pounds of weight removed from? Carbon fiber parts replaced the heavier stock bumpers, tailgate, and inner cargo box. Weight is saved in the Brembo brakes as well being that they have carbon ceramic-matrix rotors rather than conventional steel ones.
The SEMA show is no stranger to celebrities and well-known personalities, and this year was of course no different. Although he couldn't be there in person, Chevrolet brought along the Brad Paisley Signature Silverado - a lowered Silverado with a custom paint job, high performance accents and an amped-up sound system (all the better to blast Paisley's music from). Paisley's initials are scrawled artfully on the fenders of the truck, and the truck is also equipped with a performance-oriented hood extractor vent, tailgate aero lip, black tubular assist steps, custom matte black Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch wheels, Chevrolet Accessories chrome tow hooks and a spray-in bedliner with Chevrolet bowtie logo. Red brake calipers and a Borla performance exhaust system round out the list of exterior modifications. The interior houses a rear-seat entertainment system and Kicker subwoofer as well as color and trim picked by Paisley himself. Blue suede inserts in black leather seats accented with blue stitching match the rich blue exterior.
Tony Stewart is a well-known name in Chevrolet Racing, so it's only right that he had his own concept vehicle designed as well. The Tony Stewart Silverado LTZ Z71 concept was designed in conjunction with the legendary racer and features a Dark Tarnished Silver coat of paint offset by tinted head and taillamps. Several Chevrolet Accessories components adorn the truck including a tonneau cover, four-inch chrome assist steps and 22-inch wheels with a custom finish. The headrests inside bear Stewart's signature, adding to its unique styling cues.
The Chevrolet Silverado Black Ops Crew Cab 4x4 concept was one of our favorites. Designed to be ready for anything at any time, the lifted truck is capable of everything from minor emergencies to all-out chaos and recovery (like a zombie apocalypse perhaps?). Elements such as custom-fabricated lower body armor and a lockable, bed-mounted Truck Vault storage unit, along with storage containing such amenities as a solar power pack, a pair of gas masks, gloves, military first aid kit, folding shovel, and rope make the truck the first to hop into in the event of an emergency. Up top, a generator and fuel and water cans are mounted along with a crate stocked with food. Custom bed rails, a light bridge equipped with forward- and rearward-facing light bars, Chevrolet Accessories bolt-on fender flares and four-inch tubular assist steps all add to the rugged survival-mode truck. Of course, it wouldn't be so without a set of hefty off-road tires wrapped around custom painted Z71 18-inch wheels. But why not be comfortable throughout the chaos? Inside are custom black seats with yellow piping and Silverado's MyLink system with available navigation displayed on an eight-inch color touchscreen. You can even rock out while battling the zombies using the standard USB and other accessory inputs.
It's no surprise that Chevrolet would offer something specifically for the brave men and women who protect us day in and day out. The Silverado Z71 Volunteer Firefighter concept was created to honor first-responders and show just how capable of a partner the Silverado is. Equipped with full rescue equipment and the Z71 off-road suspension, the red and silver Silverado Double Cab also features plenty of room for personal gear: turnout coat and pants, firefighter helmet, air pack, and gloves. Included accessories are: custom-painted Chevrolet Accessory six-spoke 22-inch wheels, an emergency roof light bar and LED perimeter lighting, Chevrolet Accessory six-inch chrome assist steps and chrome package (door handles and mirror caps), and Chevrolet Accessory molded hood protector. Of course, emergency sirens and a public address system are of upmost importance, and there are also chrome fire extinguishers and mounting hardware, a Chevrolet Accessory gull-wing tool box, custom billet aluminum front brush guard and billet aluminum bed rails, an axe and Halligan tool, and Cantilever cab-over TracRac with custom brushed aluminum finish. We think it's a fitting gesture to those who give their all every day for the safety of strangers.
The 2015 Suburban Half-Pipe concept is an awesome new twist on the Suburban Chevy fans know and love which has been taken a step farther to even better perform for those in search of an adventure. A Chevrolet Accessories roof rack and crossbars make it easy to haul ski and snowboard gear and hit the slopes (or even the beach). Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch wheels and center caps help distinguish the concept from other SUVs and inside, passengers have access to a Blu-ray-based rear-seat entertainment system and leather-trimmed seats. Even more cargo can be stored inside thanks to fold-flat second- and third-row seats.
The sinister lowered all-black profile of the Tahoe Black concept gives fans a taste of what they can expect to see in their Chevrolet dealership showrooms beginning early next year. The "murdered-out" exterior (complete with an aero-style body package) is complimented by dark gray-painted Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch wheels, tinted headlamp lenses, and tinted windows. A black leather interior with Carbon Flash Metallic trim accents pulls the look together for one that is uniquely aggressive.
Seeing as Chevy brought a Firefighter Silverado concept to the table, it was only fair and just that they also created a Tahoe Police concept. Obviously it is also completely equipped with emergency lighting and police equipment, the Tahoe 9C1 police package is powered by a 5.3L V-8 engine rated at 355 horsepower matched with a six-speed automatic transmission. Police-specific suspension, auxiliary battery for emergency equipment and 17-inch steel wheels means we won't have to worry about the bad guy getting away.
There you have it: Chevrolet's nine awesome SEMA concept trucks, each riddled with details you will surely be seeing on new Chevy vehicles in the near future. Would you trade your daily driver in for one of these bad boys?
