Congratulations to Mark Carlyle, who won VETTE Magazine’s Fastest Corvette/Quarter-Mile Award at the 2013 Holley LS Fest for an incredible third year in a row. Carlyle’s twin-turbo ’07 Z06 notched a 7.35-second e.t. at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky, effectively running away from the rest of the Corvette contingent.
Danny Popp, meanwhile, wheeled his Van Steel–prepped ’72 to wins in both the Fastest Corvette/Autocross and Fast Corvette/3S Challenge categories. The latter event—whose name reflects an emphasis on “speed, stopping, and steering”—was new this year, replacing the Speed Stop Challenge.
Popp, a seasoned Corvette racer, suffered a drivetrain-part failure late in the day Saturday, though not before laying down what would stand as the quickest autocross pass of the event. After effecting repairs, he returned Sunday to edge out Tyler Powell’s LS2-powered Grand Sport replica in 3S.
