Super Chevy Show Memphis 2004
Memphis Rocks Us
By Tony Kelly
Get to the show early for a parking spot. Get to the swap meet and car corral real early as the folks come from all over three or four states to buy and sell. Memphis packs 'em in, and we love it. The track held all the power any car could lay on it, and the sun shined all week long--so the show cars shined for all the fans. We spent the early part of Sunday morning setting up a photo shoot for a magazine cover and features, so we prevailed on some of the South's finest young ladies to accent two of the finest Camaros we have ever seen. We used up some serious tire rubber while we were at it, but then what's a magazine shot worth? We did manage to spend a few productive hours seeing the sights on Beale Street one night, but even though the music was great and the talent was awesome, the show at Memphis Motorsports Park was still our favorite. There must be something about the sights, sounds, and smell of Nitro and burnouts that we love. CLICK HERE FOR SUPER CHEVY SHOW MEMPHIS QUICKTIME ACTION VIDEO All eyes were on Bob Hall's... All eyes were on Bob Hall's amazing quarter-mile wheel stand and the fired-up Fighterbird Jet Funny Car of Al Hanna. |
| It takes a ton of torque to... It takes a ton of torque to twist slicks the way Dan Nickelson's Nitro Coupe does. Off to another blazing quarter-mile at Memphis, this team is looking for a "three-peat" (having won the Nitro Coupe Championship the last two years in a row). The amazing thing is, Dan has this car for sale since he would really like to concentrate on getting his new C5 Corvette on the track. Make him an offer! | DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT, leave... DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT, leave the stands while the Chicago Outlaws are in the staging area. Full-bodied, street-legal, back-halved door slammers running low eight-second elapsed times and launching with awesome wheelstands are not to be missed. | Kids, don't try this at home.... Kids, don't try this at home. Our friends at Lonestar Muscle Car provided us with some very nice Super Chevy Shirts, which our models immediately customized. Usually the clothes have to come off before tailoring, but we must remember this scene played out at the top end of the dragstrip--so some conscessions had to be made. | Our first set of models needed... Our first set of models needed to get back to their regular jobs, but fortunately we had backup. Shot director Andrew Shear calls the action as the Camaros light 'em up and the girls wave the flags. | We thought we were back in... We thought we were back in California. Where else would you find a place that sells gasoline and sushi? Memphis is where. |
