Scott joined Source Interlink Media in July, 2007 after 9+ years as contributor, Managing Editor and Senior Editor of DRIVE! Magazine during its 1998-2006 heyday in Northern California. His focus at VETTE and Mopar Muscle includes feature stories, where he uses his journalistic experience to tell the story not just of the featured car, but also that of the owner(s) and their passion for Corvettes and Mopars. A 1980 graduate of Purdue University with a degree in communications, he earned his Master’s Degree in that field in 1987 from what’s now The University of Illinois- Springfield. He also holds Level III Certification in Applied Metallography from ASM International. His journalistic experience included stints in radio newsrooms around the Midwest, before joining his father, Stuart T. Ross, in a family-run metallurgical consulting business. In 1997, he and his father co-authored a legal book chapter about brittle spot-weld failures in low-speed vehicle crashes. Scott’s passion for American cars began when his family lived outside Detroit, within earshot of Woodward Avenue, during the ‘60s. Back then, GM stylist Dave Holls and Chrysler styling executive Richard Baird were neighbors-- and one of Plymouth styling chief Gerry Thorley’s sons was a grade-school classmate of Scott’s. (By the way, Scott’s father worked for GM’s Harrison Radiator Division in Lockport, NY, and at Chrysler’s materials lab in Highland Park during the ‘50s—so American cars are in his DNA.) He saw his first races in person at the Waterford Hills Road Race Course, at the Michigan State Fairgrounds’ dirt oval track, and at Detroit Dragway. Scott also heard the “races” on the stretch of Woodward between 16 and 18 Mile Roads through his window on summer nights! An avid automotive historian (“I was there then!” is a common phrase he uses when talking about Corvettes and Mopars of the ‘60s and ‘70s), Scott lives in Riverview, Florida, where his Hemi-powered, police-package-equipped ’07 Dodge Charger graces the garage.
